How to Have a Healthy Eating Habit

Humans are creatures of habit. If we are determine to do something, either exercise more, or control the intake of food, we need to develop a good eating habit.

After the routine is established, eating properly, and healthy are easy!

Step One

Develop a breakfast eating habit. I’m not a breakfast eater, but after a while of forcing myself to, I’m now grabbing for small breakfast food such as granola bar, nutri-grain cereal bar, oatmeal, or cereal on my way out.

Step Two

Do not starve yourself! If you wait so long for foods, chances are you will eat more than usual at meal time.

Have an apple, or some almond nuts for snack to tie you over to meal time.

Step Three

Have a smaller portion. Cut down on the amount of foods on your plate. If you feel full, leave it. You do not have to finish your plate, and stuff yourself.

Step Four

Savor your foods. Chew it slowly, and really enjoy it. The faster you eat, the more foods you will consume since the brain takes about 10-15 minutes to give you the signal that you are full.

Just take your time, and savor the foods.

Step Five

Do not drink while eating. Liquid will make you feel stuffed faster, but you will also notice that you get hungry faster too. Therefore, when you get hungry again after two hours, you will eat more.

My parents never allow us to drink while we are eating as young children. I finally know why. We are allowed an occasional sip if needed, but not a full cup of liquid.

  • Enjoy your foods
  • Take time literally cut down on the amount of foods on your plate.
  • Have healthy snack on hand
